Broadway on Foot starts May 24

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced back in February his plan to discontinue vehicular traffic from 47th Street to 42nd Street and from 35th Street to 33rd Street - connecting Seventh Avenue through Times Square, where Broadway bisects the madness, and improve traffic flow on Sixth Avenue through Herald Square where Macy’s is located. Work begins on May 24th. The idea is to simplify traffic patterns, create longer green lights and reduced travel times across Midtown. In theory, all traffic going east and west through Times and Herald Squares will not be impacted and travel times are expected to improve on some of those streets. The plan is also expected to improve local bus/our coach times on the avenues. City Hall says it will monitor the plot program for months and evaluate its effectiveness. After recent gridlock experiences in Times Square, I’m game!
