Virtual Tour Director: Buying/Using the Metrocard on the NYC Subway

Group leaders and Tour Pros often skip a ride on the iconic NYC Subway due to safety fears or uncertainty with the procedure of buying and using the Metrocard. This fourth USA Tour Pros Virtual Tour Director (VTD) video podcast will visually walk you through the steps of choosing, purchasing, and using the Metrocard to give your group a memorable ride.

This short video just convinced me to take my future groups underground! Thanks for making this intimidating procedure seem a lot simpler than I thought.

I have been on the NYC subway from JFK to lower Manhattan. Other passengers who ride it all the time can be very helpful it you get mixed up when having to transfer trains.

Will you do a video on the Washington D.C. Metro?

Outside of BART in SF Bay Area, its the cleanest easiest to use subway system in the U.S.A in my opinion.  I know a lot of us did the Inauguration, but at least for those who went with Smithsonian they changed the metro ride on the 20th to a bus ride. It was much nicer that way, but so many T.D.‘s missed the chance to ride the WMTA

Hi Phil:

I agree that the BART is very clean, and very simple to use.

Yes we have plans to shoot the DC Metro in early March, before the major crowds. It’s a shame the Metro ride in DC was axed as so many of our passengers never get to experience a ride on a subway. I think it’s one of the most iconic images and best experiences of going to a big city.

Tom, thanks so much for doing these VTDs.  I will be taking one of my groups from Staten Island Ferry into midtown on the subway and it has been a while since I have used the NYC subway system.  This takes the anxiety out of my trip.
Thanks again for all of your hard work.  I look forward to your future VTDs.

As luck would have it, the Staten Island Ferry VTD is being edited as we speak. You should be seeing it online shortly. We’re happy the VTDs are helping you out Lynda!
